I'm delighted to announce that my book Greenfinch has been published by Flight of the Dragonfly Press. These poems made up the bulk of my stage show of the same name and I'm excited to share them with the world. It has a wonderful coverby the fantastic artist and poet Gary Goodman. I have plans to have a physical launch quite soon but until then you can buy the book from Flight of the Dragonfly.
Some words:
In this brilliant debut pamphlet, Strong employs a lyric directness that never shies away from the complexity his subject matter demands; whether it be self imposed exile, childhood, addiction, coming of age, or love. He can be deadpan, surreal, wryly comic, tender and mournful - often in the same poem. And other things besides.
A Breckenridge
Strong provides us with an unflinching graphic exploration of a troubled journey through childhood to adulthood in a shape-shifting poetic cartography. It is laced with demons in many forms, depicting distance, direction, and symbols; of the impact of others, memory, remorse, and landscape, all of which have pulled at his search to find himself, to be free. He has made his own map and generously shared his compass.

Pete Strong's assured and poignant gathering Greenfinch both fizzes with energy and moves the reader through carefully sculpted silences. From the delightful, insistent title poem onwards, the reader feels as if they’ve been granted intimate access to a new, vivid world, one brimming with lively metaphors and textured phrasing. So many of the resonant last lines sing off the page. Highly recommended.
